Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program Benefits

Program Description

The Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program (K-WAP) operates year round and is an energy conservation program that helps qualified households reduce their utility bills by providing energy efficiency upgrades. Very simply, weatherization improves heating efficiency and fuel savings by ensuring your home holds in heat and air conditioning, while keeping hot and cold air out. With no charge to the client, income eligible families receive a comprehensive home energy assessment and a health and safety inspection of the heating source. Our local contractors or crews then install the specific energy upgrades that will save you the most money. Common improvements include installation of additional insulation and air sealing to stop drafts and air infiltration. Stop getting zapped by those high-energy bills. Take steps toward conserving energy and lowering utility bills by applying for weatherization today.

The elderly, disabled, or those with at least one child in the home are identified as priority groups. Emergency situations may also receive priority (e.g., no heat situations or high levels of carbon monoxide in the home).

General Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Kansas and meet the income levels below. If you receive Supplemental Security Income or Aid to Families with Dependent Children, you are automatically eligible to receive weatherization services. The program can serve single family homes, multifamily homes, and manufactured housing. Owners and renters with the landlord's permission are eligible for the program. This is not a housing rehabilitation program so homes with existing roof leaks, structural issues, or major electrical or plumbing issues are not eligible until these issues have been corrected.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:
Household Size* Maximum Income Level (Per Year)
1 $23,540
2 $31,860
3 $40,180
4 $48,500
5 $56,820
6 $65,140
7 $73,460
8 $81,780
